Hi Everyone! My name is Sara! I am proud to say that I am a Canadian Registered Dietitian!
I have a degree in Applied Science in Applied Human Nutrition (Honours) from the University of Guelph. After 4 wonderful years as a "Gryphon", I relocated to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, for my practical training as a dietetic intern with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. During this time, I spent 11 months working in specialized areas of dietetics - surgery, general medicine, long term care, outpatient diabetes, outpatient pediatrics, rural health, aboriginal health, public health, and food service management. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to move back to my home province of British Columbia to start my career as a dietitian after internship. Since then, I have worked in chemotherapy, long term care, general medicine and emergency, and I am now starting in my current role in outpatient nutritional counselling!
I am a strong believer that all foods can fit into a healthy diet and that healthy eating isn't a diet - its a lifestyle. Changing your dietary habits is HARD. I can completely understand that, therefore I work closely with my clients to support them with their dietary changes, help them question food rules they may have, help them fall back in love with food and eating, show them how to properly fuel their bodies for physical activity and sport performance, and how to incorporate more plants into their meals. I also help educate my clients on how to be skeptical consumers - questioning things that sound too good to be true - becoming healthier does not happen overnight. Its those long term habits that make the difference!
You can always find me out on a run, hiking up a mountain, travelling to a new country, or developing a new recipe!
